Singer-songwriter Gor Mkhitarian released his new album entitled United Fantasies: Exit Ahead on April 13th which features brand new songs and a new sound. In contrast to his last two albums, Acoustic Folklore (a collection of rearranged traditional folk songs) and GOR (an English-language album featuring his previously recorded Armenian-language songs), United Fantasies, which is Mkhitarian’s sixth album, offers ten never-before-heard songs plus two bonus tracks, new lyrics, and a fresh piano-driven sound. The subjects of his songs have also changed - having shifted from an Armenia-focus to themes related to life as a Diaspora Armenian living in the U.S. One can also expect original musicianship as United Fantasies is the first full-length album to be recorded with Mkhitarian’s new band members - musicians Art Grigorian (a classical/jazz pianist who arranged many of Mkhitarian’s new songs) and Andre Harutyunyan (drums/percussion). The talented Varoujan Hovakimyan (bass), the always eclectic Jay Dean (guitar), and an angelic-sounding stringed trio (two violins and a cello) are also featured on this album.
